Light and Movement
Duration - 4 weeks
Process
The objective of this project was to develop a portable lamp that proposes a simple and meaningful relationship between light, motion, and material. My process involved an analysis of light, and how light interacts with different materials, as well as an exploration of motion, and approaches to leverage the behavior of material to structure a desired interaction. Following analysis and exploration came a process of refinement where I was more concerned with the aesthetic appearance of my lamp.
Inspired by an exploration of Origami forms, I chose to further explore a lifting and placing motion. The initial forms I created had organic curves with an upward-facing light but did not include a placing motion. I wanted my lamp to communicate firmness, and give the user feedback upon completion of the placing motion, this led me to consider how I could embed a battery in my lamp to give my lamp tactility
